April 21, 2013 - Kathmandu Tour, Nepal

April 21, 2013 - Kathmandu Tour, Nepal

I joined the same girl from dinner the night before on a car tour around Kathmandu.  The tour would involve visiting 1 Hindu temple, the Durbar Square and 2 Buddhist temples in the area.

The first stop was at a Hindu temple complex.  The admission to get into the complex was 1000 Rupees, sheesh.  We were on the verge of skipping out when we were approached by a guy that said he would give us an hour tour for half the price and we would be able to skip the entrance fee.   He would just tell the officials that we were going with him....the entrance is free for the locals.  That was a deal we couldnt turn down and we actually go to see and learn a lot. The name of the complex was Pashupatinath and its the most important Hindu temple in Nepal.  We saw lots of holy shrines and temples as well as the funeral ghats where people where being cremated by the river.

The next stop was at a Buddhist temple called Boudhanath.  It consisted of a giant stupa surrounded by shops selling souvenirs and coffee and etc.

Oh and it was pouring rain this day...I had to buy an umbrella!

Next was Swayambhunath.  AKA monkey temple, located on top of a lil hill.

The last stop of the day was at the Durbar Square in Kathmandu.

What I have learned: In Nepal you walk clockwise around the stupas and spin the prayer wheels clockwise as well.
