March 22, 2013 - Tongariro Alpine Crossings Highlights Hike
This is a mostly pictures post. I hiked to a peak between Mt. Tongariro and Mt. Ngauruhoe AKA Mt Doom from Lord of the Rings.
It was cold and difficult and worth every ache and pain that I have, still, 3 days later.

What I have learned:
There is very new volcanic activity on Tongariro. Just about 6 months ago a new steam vent opened up and they have had to divert the original trail.
