Feb. 25, 2013 - Puerto Princesa Underground River, Palawan,Philippines

Feb. 25, 2013 - Puerto Princesa Underground River, Palawan,Philippines

The underground river on Palawan is the larger navigable underground river in the world.  We were fortunate enough to acquire one of the limited permits for a visit.  We opted for a guided tour to make the trip easy and worry free.  After much frustration about times and tour companies we were finally picked up that morning.  It was about a 2 hour drive up to Sabang, where the river is.  We had a buffet lunch and then waited for a boat to take us over to the entrance of the river.  Once at the entrance we waited for our number to be called to take a paddle boat into the cave with a park ranger. The boat fit 10 people and had a car battery hooked up to a high power flashlight.  The only light we would have inside the cave.  We got to paddle 1.4km into the cave and along the way the ranger cracked jokes and pointed out rock formations and bat nurseries.  I snapped some pictures but they are really too dark to see much.   I can now check off another "New" wonder of the natural world.

That night we flew back to Manila, AGAIN!  Early the next morning we sent Kayla back to the States.
