Jan. 12, 2013 - Angkor Temples Day 3
Jan. 12, 2013 - Angkor Temples Day 3
Sooooo many temples!
We started with Thommanon.
Then headed off to Chao Say Tevoda.
Then Ta Keo.
Then to Ta Prohm. This was a large temple complex and where they filmed one of the Tomb Raider Movies. This is also where Alene and I took a picture together with A Glamour magazine. We have sent the pic off to the magazine to hopefully be in the "Where has your Glamour been" section. We received an email back saying we have made to the next level and the picture has been sent off to the editor for consideration!!!!
Then Banteay Kdei.
And then Prasat Kravan.
And that was the last of the temples. Each one though similar was very different at the same time. Each had a different lay out and focus. And they were constructed at different points in time and by different Kings. And they were huge. Angkor Wat still remains the largest religious building in the world!! The detail on each of them is just amazing as well. There almost isnt an inch of surface (other than the floor) that hasnt been carved out in designs.
After the temples we went shopping at the local market. They have everything. Carpets, silverware, dresses, crafts, and lots of everyday useful things. I ended up buying a drip coffee maker, a cool wallet made of recycled cement bags, a dress and a Cambodia shirt.
We wandered back over to pub street, the very touristy street with restaurants, bars etc. We had dinner and people watched most of the evening.
